IELTS Speaking Sample – Saving money Part 2
Describe a time that you saved money for something.
You should say:
- When it was?
- Why you saved money?
- How did you save?
- How you felt about it?
“I had to save a large sum of money when I bought my first car for more conveniently travelling to work. I can’t remember the exact date, but I suspect it’s 6 years ago.
On top of that, this was when I left home to live independently, and I wanted to pay my own way so that I refused to lend money from my parents. It all seems that I was living on the breadline and couldn’t afford this purchase.
Fortunately, I had a full-time job and earned a good salary and an extra income from some freelance projects during my free time. But it may take years to get enough money to buy my car if I just kept living on the fast lane. So, to save money, I decided to cut down on luxuries and avoid exceeding my agreed credit limit. Then, I called my financial consultant and accepted a bank loan for my purchase. Also, I didn’t miss this opportunity to get a good deal as the car price was going cheap and finally I can drive to work everyday.
I was very comfortable with my car and satisfied with my saving. But I think the point is I learn a saving lessons and make my saving habit for a bigger money like buying a house in the future.”

Do young Vietnamese like to save money?
For some young people, especially for female, saving money is things they did on regular basis. For some males, they often squander their money on unnecessary like expensive clothes. Although these people can make a big money or money would never be in short supply, I think they should start saving money.
Do you agree with the idea that the more you save, the better life will be?
I don’t think so. Although saving money is a wise decision for financial freedom, I think there more things to do with their money rather than just keep it in bank. People should save money to avoid living on the breadline, then they can invest to make a big money and become seriously rich.

Each has their own way saving their money. I guess the best way this open a bank account and keep a healthy bank balance. This way may suite ones who have a steady income and intend to supplement it. Another way would be cut down on luxuries and don’t pay out a lot of money on unnecessary.
What are the consequences of not saving money?
Without saving money, I think people will got troubles in their personal finance. Many people didn’t think about saving even when they were young, and they cannot keep afloat when they moved out.
